Skate wheels

There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of options when it comes to skate wheels. Big wheels, small wheels, soft wheels, hard wheels; the variety can be mind-boggling. Understanding what one needs for a particular style of skating is the key to sifting through the possibilities.

Street and ramp styles require smaller, much harder wheels than do other styles. The smaller diameter wheels help maintain slower speeds, which is what is needed for performing many of the tricks. They also help keep the board as lightweight as possible.

However, when it comes to longboards, skate wheels are a bit different. Longboarding is more akin to surfing than freestyle skating, and as such require wheels that offer stability, traction, and in some cases speed as well. This means that larger, softer wheels are the better option.
